Coffee shop in toulouse

I liked the way the painting started with the architecture, but as I didn't get time to finish in one session, I had to paint the bottom part today, and the little silhouettes gave me much trouble. I'm not sure that was the painting I intended to do yesterday. I might as well crop it, not sure yet

La fontaine de la trinite

La place de la trinité is a charming square in the city center  invaded by coffee terraces with this nice fountain in the middle. Unfortunately because of the weather I could not paint outdoors, but I took a few pictures last saturday around  town to work on. Besides I already sketched this place before and have drunk many coffees observing this fountain in the sun !

Mess in progress

I was just supposed to do a "quick" daily study ,  it became a fight

A very messy start
I was going up and down with this painting, I felt fine, than five minutes later I wanted to start eveything again. All the stages I went through were eveything but academic... And finally I used my knife to scrap the bobbin and the shell  ( O rage, O desespoir) and started to paint with the knife which was a new experiment to me. That was a real struggle like discovering fencing, not sure I'll be brave enough to try getting this painting somewhere further, not sure it's worth it

Rainy sunday

An oil sketch of my son watching a movie. He is nearly six and really needs an haircut...
I've done so many sketches of him I could draw him eyes closed. He is my favorite and most inspiring model

Le pont neuf

This is the oldest bridge in Toulouse, built in the 16th century. It's a nice place to walk by the waterside. Across the river the brick building is an old hospital  used for leprous in the middle ages. It was very windy and I did not achieve the sunlight effect on the façade before it completely came in the shadow , but I have no excuse, I'm really struglling to catch sunlight effect on brick!  Any help is wellcome!

I installed my painting box on the saddle so I could stand up for painting, besides it was convenient to move a little bit when the sun hit my palette

Tous a l'opera

Free show of ballet dancers at the theater. There were also showing beautiful costumes made for opera singers. I made a few sketches and got a few ideas for paintings

Experimenting palettes

Two sessions on the same subject
Three different results
I used the same limited palette of warm yellow, cadmium red and ultramarine
During the second session I worked two versions simultaneously, trying to get the warmest and coldest of the same palette

Sky study, before rain

Well, still not spring.... We went to a playground area with a nice view on the cloudy sky. I did this quick study on location, just before it rained again

Toulouse municipal greenhouses

This was my very first visit to the municipal greenhouses, usually close to public except for today. It's really a wonderful place, great architecture, lot of charm. Therefore I'm planning to get permission to go for a few painting sessions there, hopefully it´ll work!
