Cup and spoon

This painting was inspired by a piece of old tapestry fabric I have . I was restoring a 18th century painted ceiling and pieces of this tapestry were torn from the wall and thrown away. This room certainly used to look like a painting by Vuillard with all this flower pattern around! My attention though was taken more by color harmony of the whole than by the beautiful design and actual color of the tapestry alone.

Small nude in progress

The real painting looks dull compare with the picture. It looks like it is seen through a red filter. First I thought I completely failed my flesh colors but maybe glazing is the solution. It's a small study (15cmx15cm) done after an old picture

Fondation Bemberg

No painting today, inspiration day. I had not been to this museum for a while. It has especially a great Bonnard collection, a few Vuillard, Dufy and many other fantastic pieces . Some wonderful ancient art as well, but I spent most of the time in the 20th century floor.
The building of the museum itself is a gem from the 16th century

Live model sketches at the museum

Today I went to an open live model session in a museum. It occurs a few times a year and it's quite fun to have models posing among neoclassical paintings. Usually I would have taken large paper and charcoal but today for practical reasons I could only have my sketchbook. So my first aim was to work on composition, placing the model in its environment, but finally I really had to concentrate on construction and anatomy. There were one man and one woman, it lasted for 2 hours with lots of quick gesture drawings and a few 15-20mn poses.

Sketching outdoors

First time of the year plein air sketching in oil. We have a beautiful place in Toulouse called "le canal du midi". It's a canal going all the way from Toulouse to the mediteranean sea (240km). I rode my bike about 7 km away from town, it was really beautiful and quiet. Here are a few sketches done from the banks (pencil and gouache) and a little oil sketch in the port area.

Canned peaches

Canned peaches 15x15cm Oil on canvas paper

I spent a very good time studying those peaches this morning, good feelings, lots of concentration, sometimes forgetting the world around. I like painting for these moments, whatever the result.

Here it is drying in my "studio" ( painting corner) I like it in this environment, and I find the trompe l'oeil effect funny too

Portrait

I did this portrait after a monochrome vintage picture. Though I was not perfectly faithful to the model, I think the painting keeps the same sweet antique feeling.

Small paintings are like thumbnail sketches, it forces to group shapes and tones, and avoid details.
