Pastel painting tuscany

Here is a little pastel painting after an oil sketch done in tuscany this summer. Nice moment to remenber when it's cold and raining outside.  I remenber the song of cicadas, I remenber how dry was the grass, yellow orange and so luminous , the distant hills and the light on the olive trees.

Pastel painting box

I haven't done pastel for a long time.  I organized a great box with cardboard compartment for all the pastels I collected over the years. It's just a pleasure to look at these colors in the box! I've made two floors, one on each side when the box is open,  one over the other when I close the box.

The mural is now over, here are a few picture of the painting on location. Working with a tv in the middle of the wall was weird but I had no choice!

Mural painting in progress

I've been comissioned a mural for an hospital with two main instructions : bright colors  (not my cup of tea usually....), animals (nice subject)
Because it's not close from home (2 hours drive is an huge distance for my european way of life!) and for my planning convenience I decided to make some part of the mural on canvas. Some part will be done on location
I paint flat on the floor in acrylics

Small scale model of the whole mural presented to my client
After discussion we'll finally not have this strawberry color

Here is my first day painting at home

Toulouse sketches

A few places from my neibourghood. Spots that make me feel like painting every time I see them.  They all have an emotional impact on me

A cold morning
The house with the perfect artist studio huge windows on the first floor

A nice sunny afternoon
It is so usual that this kind of little houses are destroyed and replaced by ugly modern block of flats. So sad

Sunset oil painting sketch

18h30 in my kitchen cooking dinner. Nice and warm for the season,  the door overlooking the balcony is open. And then I saw this blue green sky that was so appealing. So I rushed with my painting box on the balcony, the sun left me no more than 20mn, colors where changing quickly and I nearly ended painting in the dark. I like the energy of this sketch and the atmosphere which is faithful to my first feeling of the scene, even  my dinner was not (completely) burnt

Degas Bonnard Vuillard photographes

I borrowed from the library this book on  three great artists I admire, Degas, Bonnard and Vuillard.  It's not about their paintings but photographs they took. it reveals how much an artist's look is at least as much important as his technic, if not more. I found especially Bonnard's pictures of Marthe very inspiring for little sketches, there is so much emotion and sensibility already there in his picture

I was invited to a nearby old  farm and took this opportunity to do a few sketches. I liked especially the two curious horses, such gret subjects

And here are the painted sketches I did at home together with my sketches and reference pictures
